Senior Tax Planner
Job Description
The Senior Tax Planner is responsible for overseeing our firm’s tax planning technology tools, and meeting directly with advisors and clients to deliver comprehensive tax planning, strategic advice, and solutions. The ideal candidate possesses strong leadership, deep technical tax expertise, and a client-focused approach.
Responsibilities
Client Advisory and Tax Planning
- Meet directly with clients and advisors to provide tax planning, strategy, and recommendations.
- Develop and implement proactive tax-saving strategies tailored to client goals and financial situations.
- Collaborate with clients throughout the year to anticipate tax implications of financial decisions or changes in business operations.
- Build and maintain strong, long-term client relationships based on trust, expertise, and responsiveness.
- Prepare and present tax projections, planning analyses, and strategy summaries to clients.
- Assist in calculating certain inherited IRA distribution requirements.
Team Leadership and Management
- Manage and maintain the firm’s tax planning software.
- Review and monitor the always-evolving ways we can improve our offering.
- Assign client specific tasks to team members, ensuring balanced workloads and clear expectations.
- Monitor team progress to ensure deadlines are met, workloads are prioritized, and quality standards are upheld.
- Promote a culture of collaboration, accountability, and professional growth within the tax department.
- Assist in recruiting, onboarding, and developing new tax staff as needed.
Operational Responsibilities
- Review and enhance internal processes to improve efficiency, accuracy, and client service quality.
- Collaborate with firm leadership to set departmental goals and implement best practices in tax compliance and planning.
- Ensure proper documentation and organization of client files within the firm’s CRM (Salesforce) and shared drive folders.
- Maintain confidentiality of all client information and ensure data security protocols are followed.
- Support firm-wide initiatives, including workflow improvements and technology integration.
General Responsibilities
- Maintain client data, cases and notes in various internal systems including the firm’s CRM (Salesforce)
- Maintain Client Docs folder on shared drive according to template
- Communicate effectively with clients, colleagues, and management to resolve discrepancies and answer financial questions.
- Assist senior accountants and tax professionals during peak filing and closing periods.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and help implement best practices in bookkeeping and tax preparation.
